Harvesting the Peace of Summer: Mindfulness Practices

As the days grow shorter and the air begins to carry a hint of autumn, it's a beautiful time to reflect on the vibrant summer that was. Let's carry that sense of warmth and joy into the new season by incorporating mindfulness into our daily lives. Here are three simple ways to savor the end of summer and prepare for what lies ahead:

1. Morning Meditation: Start your day with a few minutes of sunshine first thing in the morning. Even on overcast days you can still get the benefits of the morning sun.

Find a quiet spot, outside or by a window, get comfortable, and focus on your breath. Let the sounds of nature ground you and set a peaceful tone for the day ahead.

2. Mindful Eating: Summer brings an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables. Practice mindful eating by savoring each bite, noticing the flavors, textures, and aromas of your food. Eat slowly and with intention, appreciating the nourishment it provides.

3. Digital Detox: Set aside time each day to disconnect from screens and devices. Use this time to engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation, such as reading a book, gardening, or spending time with loved ones.

4. Evening Meditation: The sun sets later each day so you can get the added benefit of getting extra time outside without it being so dark. Again, find a quiet spot, get comfortable, and focus on your breath. Reflect on things that you are grateful for, try to journal, draw or express it in some way. This is a wonderful way to end a summer day.

Summer time is a good time to incorporate these mindfulness practices. You can begin to make these practices your summer routine.  May this season bring you joy, relaxation, and growth.
