Open Up’s Yoga Teacher Training begins in 2023

Open Up is hosting the 4th cohort of our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. Our program is for anyone who is interested in deepening their yoga practice, learning about the importance of accessibility and equity in yoga, or becoming a certified yoga facilitator. Our training centers the fact that individuals best learn in different ways and works to support the needs of each participant. We are proud to state that over 50% of our graduated teacher training participants identify as living with a disability and many of them work with us and within their own communities. Our inclusive learning space benefits everyone, those living with a disability and those not living with a disability.

In this training you will learn about:

The History of Yoga

Styles of Yoga

The 8 Limbs of Yoga

Asana

Asana Variations (learn how to modify a pose or practice to meet the needs of any student)

Class Creation/ Sequencing

Human Informed Teaching

Anatomy

Pranayama

Chakras

Meditation

Intro to Improv (we believe this is beneficial to self-discovery and informed teaching)

Cultural Appropriation/Connecting Cultures

Community Care

Our training is Yoga Alliance certified. We will meet both in person (at our studio in Lawrenceville) and virtually to help support accessibility needs. This training lasts from the end of January through the end of July meeting the second and fourth weekends of each month. We have scholarships available for folks with disabilities or those who work in the field.

Here is what graduates have to say about their experience:

"When I saw this training advertised, I knew it was the 200hr level I was waiting to take. I now practice and teach yoga from a more open, inclusive place and I am so thankful for that."

“Everyone at Open Up is so approachable and did whatever they could to support my particular learning style, in order to grow as a yoga instructor. Open Up Teacher Training recognizes that there is no one size fits all in yoga. I learned how to be intentionally thoughtful and adaptable so that my students would feel comfortable and welcomed.”

Open Up Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) has literally changed my life in such positive ways. I participated in the cohort that my daughter had registered for, so that we could have a mother/daughter activity together. The training itself was well-organized and so insightful, we learned way more than I ever thought in relation to yoga. The training instructors were so knowledgeable and used a variety of teaching methods (e.g. visuals, discussions, readings, and more). They also taught various ways to adapt poses based on an individual’s physical needs, which I particularly liked and appreciated. They kept us engaged through fun activities and getting to know each other. In fact, our cohort ultimately became like a family, and I still talk to our group regularly to this day. After graduating from the training, I was able to immediately be contracted as a yoga teacher for “chair yoga” at several retirement communities, and it’s been an amazing journey. Thanks to Open Up’s YTT, I’ve been very comfortable adapting the classes for the retirees’ needs. Our classes are so fun and the retirees love it. My daughter is also employed teaching yoga and absolutely loves her budding career. I simply can’t say enough positive things about Open Up’s YTT, it was a tremendously rewarding experience and we continue to reap the benefits today. I welcome anyone to contact me to discuss this letter, the YTT, or any related matter.

The cost of our YTT is $3200. We do have scholarships available and payment plans. Please ask us about these!
