I Don't Feel Like Myself Today...Try This!

It’s OK not to be OK, and it’s important to share these moments with someone. The more we can practice expressing our feelings, the less shame and embarrassment we feel as a whole. It takes a lot of courage to sit with emotions that are unfamiliar. The truth of the matter is that a lot of people can relate! Your friends, peers, and family have been in similar situations that have stirred these types of emotions.

Know that you have options, whether you want to seek professional care, talk to a friend, have alone time, or move your body, discover ways to get back to yourself.

VALIDATE YOUR EMOTIONS

  • Give yourself permission to feel sensitive to your emotional current, which allows more time to process the true emotional experience.

  • Express your feelings and be free from judgement or solution-based expectations.

  • Reach out to a friend, relative, or peer and be open to a dialogue.

  • Charting your feelings or creating a reflective video, allowing space to experience the emotion verses criticizing, fixing, or dismissing it right away.

  • Seek professional care or counseling. Behaviors and moods are researched by science and most have therapeutic and medical interventions to support your needs.

CHANGE OF SCENERY

  • Make a shift in your environment to recharge your battery.

  • Hop into nature, with your phone on silent or left at home. Prepare for the weather conditions accordingly and go!

  • Travel by car, foot, or bus without a destination, and enjoy being with yourself along for the ride.

  • Prepare for sleep with a special routine and consider opting in for an earlier bedtime.

  • Add a piece of decor, plant, or art to admire in the space you spend most of your time.

GROUND IN CONNECTION

  • Feel your feet on the ground and focus on the sensations.

  • Bring your awareness to your senses and name what comes to mind.

  • Take comfort in petting your animal or a soft blanket.

  • Cook yourself a nutritious meal and sit down without a device to enjoy it.

  • Enroll in a social experience or community event.
